Climbing the volcano Misti
Day 1: Arequipa - Base camp
At 09:00 'o clock we leave Arequipa with a 4x4 car and we drive
to Cabrerias, National Reserve of Aguada Blanca. If possible we will
see the wild vicuρas, between El Misti and Chachani mountains. We
arrive to the north base of El Misti at 3,800 meters (car base). We
start the trekking and we will climb to 4,800 meter. After lunch we
continue the trek in eastward direction, accentuated land in
volcanic ash. In the afternoon we arrive at the camp base "Mont
Blanc". Dinner and Camp at 4800 meters.
Day 2: Summit and return to Arequipa
At 04:00 hours we serve breakfast and afterwards we begin the
climbing with light equipment. At 11:00 hours we will reach the
summit, after a brief rest at 5,600 m. The view is spectacular. You
can watch the enormous crater and also a smaller one, characterized
for emanation of some gasses. At 5,825 m we arrive at the cross of
Misti. You have an impressive view of the city of Arequipa, and the
snowy Chachani, Pichu-pichu, Coropuna and the Ampato mountains. At
13:00 hours we will return to the camp base. After some rest we walk
to the car base and return to Arequipa. You will be transferred to
your hotel at approximately 17:00.
