BIRDS WATCHING / SANDOVAL LAKE (4 Days - 3 nights)

The Forest of Tambopata is characterized to lodge to one of the
greater varieties of birds in the world and the area of the reserve
Tambopata Candamo where the enigmatic Sandoval Lake as well as the
Quebrada Briolo is and Gamitana are the Places privileged for that
objective where Ornithologists and lovers of the birds can find what
they wish.
DAY 01: PUERTO MALDONADO / LODGE / SANDOVAL LAKE
Arrival to the city of Puerto Maldonado “CAPITAL OF the
BIODIVERSITY Of the PERU". Reception in the airport and transfer to
the city, soon to direct us to the Port and to take our boat that
will lead us by Madre de Dios River, until the entrance to the Lake.
From the border we will initiate a long walk by the forest of
approximately one hour, until arriving at the Mejia Lodge (basic)
located to borders of the Sandoval Lake. Reception and installation
in bungalows according to the reserve, soon we will initiate a long
walk by the forest accompanied by a guide during little more than
two hours, in this long walk we will find a great diversity of flora
and fauna, specially a great variety of birds. Nocturnal visit to
the lake, where we will be able to appreciate the nocturnal life of
some species that inhabit the lake.
DAY 02: QUEBRADA BRIOLO / SANDOVAL LAKE
After breakfast we will initiate a long walk by average the one of
approximately 2 hours and until arriving at the Quebrada Briolo, we
will be able here to appreciate a great variety of herons, cardinals,
fly catchers, wood creeper, trogons and endless number of species of
birds. Lunch box lunch. Soon we will take advantage of to give a
refreshing bath, returning soon to Sandoval Lake. At night after the
dinner we will observe Caymans in the lake.
DAY 03: SANDOVAL LAKE / QUEBRADA GAMITANA
Soon of the breakfast we will take a canoe and we will initiate
a stroll by the lake where it will be possible to be appreciated
great diversity of flora and fauna, finding orchid’s, heliconias,
wild hens, taricayas (small turtles), with luck we could see giant
otter and diversity of fish. It is possible to take a refreshing
bath in the lake without any danger. Return to the lodge. Soon the
lunch we will leave to the River Madre de Dios and after a trip
river down by one hour approximately we will arrive at the Gamitana
River, where we will go into to observe a very rich variety of
typical birds of the place. In the afternoon we will return to
Puerto Maldonado. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 04. PUERTO MALDONADO/AIRPORT
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
